Professor Christopher Elliott graduated from Ulster University with a Masters degree in Biomedical Science. He went on to complete a PhD at Queens University on the subject of veterinary drug residue analysis. Chris is currently Professor of Food Safety and Director of the Institute of Agri-food and Land Use at Queen's University. He worked at the Veterinary Science Division in Belfast for over twenty years in a wide variety of roles including haematology, parasitology and animal physiology research. Since 1986, Chris has been active in research related to chemical contaminant analysis in foods and feed and has specialised in using immunochemical technologies. Chris has been the author/co-author of more than 160 international scientific publications on chemical contaminant problems and analysis. He acts as an independent advisor for the United Nations joint FAO/IAEA organisation on the subject of monitoring for residues in food products. Chris has co-ordinated several large EC funded research project such as BioCop (www.biocop.org) and will lead a new initiative to develop better ways to prevent contamination of animal feeds entering Europe (Qsaffe.org).
