Hubert De Brabander was born on May 21, 1946 in Ghent, Belgium. He graduated from Ghent University in 1968 with a Master in Chemistry (Licentiaat). In 1974, he became a Doctor in Chemistry and an Advanced Master (Licentiaat) in Environmental Sciences. In 1984, he obtained the diploma of “Geaggregeerde voor het Hoger Onderwijs in de Analytische Chemie van Eetwaren” (a second PhD in analytical chemistry of food during which the University recognises your ability to teach at University level). He started his career at the Faculty of Sciences, Ghent University and then shifted to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In 2003 de obtained also the degree of Doctor in veterinary sciences. He is now a Full Professor in the department of Veterinary Public Health and Food safety (Head of department) and the Director of the Chemical Analysis Laboratory. His area of expertise is the chemical analysis of food (residues and contaminants), with research and service to the community as his main objective. He is the author or co-author of more than 100 scientific publications and technical reports and also a member of various Boards, Scientific Organisations, Working Groups and Committees (member of the Ghent University Board, past-President of the Flemish Chemical Society Food Division, President of the Belgian Association of Meat Science and Technology (BAMST), member of BSMS etc). He also presides the Quality Control Institute, a consumer label.
